Since its founding by Pia Pasalk in 2008, Content and Container has been devoted to the singular qualities hidden under the cover of everyday objects and ordinary circumstances. The concept-based designs ignore the boundaries between jewellery, product design, and fashion. In the title of the Dockerhandbag, Pia Pasalk plays ironically on the transformation of a dockworker milieu into a modern office and residential district. Pasalk represents the dual nature by enclosing a white leather purse inside a canvas exterior reminiscent of a worker’s canvas duffel bag and by equipping it with a porcelain handle borrowed from a coffee pot. The result combines the familiar with the distinctive. Inspired by the wabi-sabi philosophy of Japan, the Perfect Imperfect collection is an homage to the beauty of the imperfect, the incomplete, and the unconventional. Its products are produced at the studio in Cologne or in collaboration with outside firms in Germany.
