Hedwig Rotter calls her label “mano design”, thus alluding to her principle of combining craftsmanship and design. By modifying everyday objects in an unusual manner or by testing the limits of her favorite material, porcelain, she creates highly imaginative and innovative novelties. Once she is satisfied with an experimental prototype, she perfects it into a small series. To decorate her handcrafted tableware, accessories and lamps she uses the screen printing technique. The objects created by this former student in the master class of Matteo Thun can be admired since 1993 at important international trade fairs and exhibitions. She received awards for her “disposal” series (nominated in the Design category at the International Biennale for Contemporary Ceramics in Vallauris, France in 2006), her “balance” series (at the FORM#2008 competition), and her “dots” series (at the SPOT ON event in Vienna in 2009).
