Off the Mainstream

An unusual, artistically crafted object at the “Zeughaus Fair”: a wooden necklace by Silke Spitzer. Photo Hans Scherhaufer.
In Berlin, one can also buy Christmas presents in the “German Historical Museum”: About 75 artists and designers will present home furnishings, bags, ceramics, garments, shoes and jewelry in the Zeughaus building’s Schlüterhof courtyard. A jury ensures that only high-quality objects are on offer. Berlin’s Zeughaus Fair for Applied Arts and Design has been held twice a year since 2004 and is organized by the Association for the Applied Arts Berlin-Brandenburg. Its goal is to sharpen people’s sense for beauty and the special quality of artistically crafted objects.
