  • CONVERTIBLE SPHERE

    December 30, 2009

OUR JEWELRY OF THE DAY: THEMYSTERY SPHEREJEWELRY CLASP DESIGNED BY JÖRG HEINZ. 750 GOLD, DIAMONDS AND TAHITIAN OR SOUTH SEA PEARLS.

With the “Mystery Sphere” clasp, Jörg Heinz has truly refined his popular, exchangeable jewelry clasp. With this new creation the family-run company, which is now being managed by Martin Heinz, has testified once again to its innovative capacity – 35 years after Jörg Heinz invented the modern jewelry clasp. Each Mystery Sphere can be converted without the slightest effort: Gentle pressure with both forefingers and thumbs closes the sphere’s open side while at the same time its reverse side opens up. This perfect metamorphosis is signaled by a soft click. When opened, the sphere’s front and reverse side each reveal a different design of the inner sphere. Counting all the variants – both sides of…More →

  • PURE ADORNMENT, CLARITY AND POETRY

    December 28, 2009 Duisburg

OUR JEWELRY OF THE DAY: “LA” RING FROM TANJA FRIEDRICH’S “PURE ADORNMENTCOLLECTION. 750 GOLD GALLERY WIRE.

When not worn, this ring created by Tanja Friedrichs reminds the beholder of a “sleeping flower” but when put on the finger, it takes on a surprisingly new, elegant shape. To create her ring collections with matching earrings this designer from Duisburg uses gallery wire, an ornamental material used in classical goldsmithing. Despite the conceptual clarity of all her designs, her pieces can also be termed “pure adornment” thanks to their delightfully sensuous haptic properties and the refined plays of light and shadow they present. Whether white or black, the mirror-polished surfaces of each t…More →

  • AS IF HELD BY CARING, SENSITIVE HANDS

    December 23, 2009

OUR JEWELRY OF THE DAY: EINPERLER DER ZWEITE (“ONE PEARL THE SECOND”) RINGS BY CORINNA HELLER. 750 YELLOW OR ROSE GOLD AND A CULTURED SOUTH SEA PEARL, BRILLIANT-CUT DIAMONDS.

Clear-cut yet smoothly flowing lines, often complemented by traditional symbols, are the signature features of Corinna Heller’s jewelry. In her oeuvre, preciousness is expressed as a symbiosis of the design idea, the choice of materials, meticulous craftsmanship and formal clarity. Nevertheless, her pieces do not lack a dash of irony and wit which are revealed in formal details as well as in their names. When it comes to precious gemstones and pearls, this designer applies the utmost sensitive care. In her Einperler der Zweite (“One Pearl the Second”) rings a lustrous South Sea pearl – when seen in profile – looks as if upraised and protected by caring, sensitiveMore →

  • SPARKLING

    December 21, 2009 Karlsruhe, Germany

OUR JEWELRY OF THE DAY: THE SPARKLING BRACELET BY CHRISTIANE IKEN. 925 SILVER AND MIRROR-CUT SMOKY QUARTZ.

Christiane Iken creates airy, three-dimensional miniature constructions that play with light and shadow. The repetition of structures and typologies, the tension between positive and negative, between mass and transparency play an important role for her. Set only at the top and bottom, the stones of her “Sparkling” bracelet are free to unfold their sparkle like scintillating fireworks. The light reflections on the wearer’s skin and in the beholder’s eyes demonstrate that even minimalist, clear-cut shapes, when based on an intelligent design, can arouse strongMore →

  • LIGHT REFRACTION, COLOR AND TRANSPARENCY

    December 18, 2009

OUR JEWELRY OF THE DAY: THE FACETS BROOCHES DESIGNED BY BRITTA REJEK. ACRYLIC GLASS AND 925 SILVER.

The “Facets Brooches” designed by Britta Rejek present a colorful interplay between light refraction, color and transparency. While still studying at Düsseldorf’s University of Applied Sciences, she already examined the topic of “In-Between Spaces”. With her “Facets Brooches”, this jewelry designer has reinterpreted the theme of doublets which combine two different materials to form a single stone. Depending on the beholder’s angle of view, the transparent plastic either absorbs the color of the subjacent surface or deflectsMore →

  • PIQUE DAME PEARL RINGS

    December 17, 2009

OUR JEWELRY OF THE DAY: THE PIQUE DAME PEARL RINGS DESIGNED BY BRIGITTE ADOLPH. 750 YELLOW OR WHITE GOLD, DIAMONDS OR RUBIES AND A SOUTH SEA OR TAHITIAN PEARL.

Named after an opera by Tchaikovsky, these “Pique Dame” rings created by Brigitte Adolph remind us of traditional pomp. A precious South Sea or Tahitian pearl seems to be held by delicate, radiant golden lace. What looks like finespun fabric, however, turns out to be pure precious metal and we realize that this jewelry designer from Karlsruhe plays with our perception. Inspired by the past, this magnificent ring creation as well as her entire Lace Collection are based on a compellingly authenticMore →

  • BRAIDED FLOWER SPHERES

    December 15, 2009

OUR JEWELRY OF THE DAY: THE YEDRIS RINGS DESIGNED BY BETTINA GEISTLICH. 750 YELLOW GOLD AND 950 PLATINUM.

The “yedris” rings designed by Bettina Geistlich, a Swiss designer, unite precise construction and nature-oriented symbolism. The pieces’ shape, material and crafting technique form an inseparable entity. The airy, flexible body of each ring’s “flower sphere” is composed of six identical, abstract flowers crafted from round wire. The loose construction invites both the beholder and the wearer to reflect upon it and to try to find the links. It’s amazing how complex something simple can be.

This creation by Bettina Geistlich has been nominated for the Modern Jewelry…More →

  • MAGIC EYES

    December 14, 2009 Berlin

OUR JEWELRY OF THE DAY: THE INSERT NAVETTE RINGS DESIGNED BY BEATE BRINKMANN. 750 YELLOW OR RED GOLD AND A NAVETTE-SHAPED GARNET OR CITRINE.

The two “insert” rings created by Beate Brinkmann, a Berlin-based jewelry designer, feature navette-shaped gemstones spanned by the bold arch of a golden ring band. Looking at them from the top the beholder only sees the plain golden ring band. When seen from the side, however, the radiant citrine or garnet looks at us as if it were the magic eye of an unknown deity. A true classic of modern jewelry design that is known only to aMore →

  • TIMELESS WATCH

    December 10, 2009 Berlin

T1MEPEACE BANGLE DESIGNED BY DENISE JULIA REYTAN. NICKEL-FREE AND FINE GOLD-PLATED STAINLESS STEEL. LENGTH: 145 MM.

With her new edition of T1mepeace bangles, Denise Julia Reytan skilfully plays with the symbolism of the omnipresent timekeeper on the wrist. However, these T1mepeaces lack one important detail: The “dial“ is empty. It neither has hands nor numerals. Thus the wearer maintains his/her peace of mind yet doesn’t have to do without a beautiful accessory on the arm either.

With this timeless watch, the Berlin-based designer wants to remind us how important it is to enjoy life. Because when we are happy and having a good time, it doesn’t matter what time it is.

    What distinguishes the new…More →

  • THE CHARM OF MINIMALISM

    December 09, 2009

OUR JEWELRY OF THE DAY: BATHO GÜNDRA’S STAIRS NECKLACE CRAFTED FROM 750 GOLD.

Mobile liveliness thanks to plays of light and shadow while featuring a sleek, clear-cut modernist shape: Batho Gündra convincingly shows us how much charm utmost geometric minimalism can exude. With his minimalist Stairs necklace, this jewelry designer also playfully bridges the gap between classic modernism and the antique goldsmithing art. After all, this eminently contemporary necklace might also be a credit to an Egyptian femaleMore →
