Following our survey on where the „journey“ in jewellery 2010 will lead, Ute Decker from London commented: „In my opinion the discussion about sustainable jewellery will be a dominant feature in 2010. In the English media the issue is increasingly covered. Furthermore, the events and exhibitions planned for the worldwide first launch of third-party verified Fairtrade Gold in the UK later this year will continue to raise awareness. Already now the demand by jewellers is surpassing the amount of certified gold expected to be available this summer.

Irrespective of ever changing fashion trends, my customers value mindfully handcrafted pieces, an individual aesthetic as well as the ethical provenance and use of materials. Timeless elegance will always be in fashion! Comments Ute Decker from the British capital.

Lacquered silver ring, recycled silver, bioresin. Recommended retail price £ 280 / € 320.

We would like to add; reuse and recycling has been the basis of valuable jewellery for millennia. This applies to precious metals as well as precious stones. When something goes out of fashion, it will be re-fashioned, re-used, melted down. Jewellery of artistic merit in non-precious materials has a long life, too. If made by artists or gifted designers, it might well find its way into private collections or museums and will thus give joy to many generations to come.
