Frederike Schürenkämper’s “Überflieger” (“High-Flyer”) line was inspired by paper objects created by her daughter Luisa. Also, contrary to the premeditated method of many conventional goldsmiths, her approach is purely intuitive. The uncertainty of never knowing exactly what and how much she should do or not do and where something might lead accompanies the creation of all her one-of-a-kind pieces. “The moment that I know what comes next and how to take the next step is like a little death,” she says yet confesses: “It’s strange that in spite of this, I always want everything to proceed according to a pattern. But perhaps we only feel good when we can recognize something.”
