Claudia Rinneberg’s creations do not correspond to our common notions of “appealing” jewelry. This artist’s intention is much rather to emphasize the personality and individuality of art-minded wearers, including their rough edges. Crafting her pieces like a blacksmith, Rinneberg accepts rough surfaces and marks that reveal the casting or hammering process as welcome design elements. Also, she regards the fire as a “co-designer” that lends a unique character to each piece. Hammering iron while red hot and also using fire to work the surfaces of gold and silver, she endows her pieces with an intentionally imperfect aesthetic quality that also reminds us of the transience of all things. Rinneberg’s main goal is to create highly individual and expressive pieces that encourage jewelry wearers to show that they are different.
