Christoph Blatter has a penchant for sleek simplicity as well as for the archaic. In addition, he feels a strong desire to create unique things. “This is my strongest incentive,” he says. Blatter gained his comprehensive know-how and diversified skills last but not least in numerous specialized training courses, both in Switzerland and abroad. This is also how he learned the ancient goldsmithing technique practiced by the West African Ashanti people. Crafted according to this technique, the spiral as a symbol of life is enhanced by three-dimensional liveliness thanks to the sophisticated pattern alternating matte and shiny surfaces. Another source of inspiration for Blatter is nature. Thus, the irregular patterns of his “Cellula” line are reminiscent of plant cells enlarged under a microscope, while the pieces of his latest “Unda” line (Latin for ‘wave’) owe their sculptural quality and lightness to paper-thin, gently curved precious metal lamellae.
