Nikolay Sardamov counts among a group of Bulgarian artists who create modern art jewelry of exquisite quality. His latest collection is the result of his focusing on and experimenting with one single basic shape: the circle. Each of the collection’s brooches, pendants, rings and earrings is composed of an array of circles chosen from a total of six different circle sizes. As the collection’s name “Intersections” indicates, these circles are interconnected so as to form various clusters and layers. Creating the different shapes was like a game of exploring variations, Sardamov comments. By playfully combining the same amount of components in a variety of manners, for example, he produced entirely different overall shapes featuring distinct sizes, density and patterns. Sardamov first creates wax models of the individual clusters and then casts them in one piece in silver or gold.
