Like a treasure seeker Petra Giers discovered the works of Erwin Pauly, a gemstone engraver from Idar-Oberstein, which she then put in a contemporary light in her own creations. Her rings and pendants feature traditional symbols and distinct engravings in banded agate, hematite, rock crystal, onyx or garnet. Petra Giers has developed a liking for dragons, which in many cultures and religions are associated with spiritual meanings, but also includes motifs from everyday life in her pieces. The contours of a pistol on one of her signet rings, for example, with a dash of tongue-in-cheek, underline the contrast between the sensuous shape and the motif as such. With her jewelry Petra Giers contributes to the rediscovery of traditional motifs as a theme for modern jewelry.
