Antonio Bernardo

1947 Born in Rio de Janeiro
1981 Founded his own company in Rio de Janeiro

Antonio Bernardo’s pieces of jewelry impress the beholder not only with their playful lightness and architectural austerity, but also with the ingenious ideas involved. Excellent examples are the Prisma earrings as well as the Sólidos ring and the bracelets Intimo, Together and Wave. The famous Puzzle ring invites its wearer to play with it.

After training as an engineer Antonio Bernardo, the son of a father of German descent, studied horology for a year in 1970 at the Centre International de Formation de l’Industrie Horlogère Suisse (CFH) in Lausanne. Back in Rio de Janeiro, Bernardo created his first ring. Today, this important jewelry designer is represented in his 18 stores in Brazil as well as in jewelry stores in the USA, Europe and Asia. He has been awarded many international prizes, such as the iF Product Design Award, the red dot Design Award and the IJL (International Jewellery London) Award. 2010 and 2011 his works were accepted into the Modern Jewelry Collection.

Prisma-earring_antonio-bernardo
Prisma Earrings
Gold 750, rock crystal.
Inspired by a prism, its gems with leveled polished facets produce impressing reflections and lighting effects. With only a gold thread surrounding their edge, these pieces gain tridimensional transparence.
Solidos-ring_antonio-bernardo
Sólidos Ring
Gold 750.
Its inspiration comes from the natural growth of crystals, which develop in a very rigid, solid and random manner. What seems to be disorder is actually an alternate order.
Intimo-bracelet_antonio-bernardo
Intimo bracelet
Gold 750, diamonds.
Its parts are attached at a symmetrical inclination, showing the connection and contact which exist between them. Holding diamonds in its interior, this bracelet reveals its precious intimacy.
Together-bracelet_antonio-bernardo
Together bracelet
Gold 750.
Depending on each element’s position, the bracelet will present different shape, sometimes it stays concave and other times it will have a convex shape. The impression is that both elements are apart, when actually they are joined.
Wave-bracelet_antonio-bernardo
Wave bracelet
Gold 750.
Shaped by curved, crisscrossing gold ribbons, this bracelet suggests a flowing tide-like motion. The surprising effect is simultaneously graphic and three-dimensional.
