Isabel Mania’s degree project entitled “Hunters and Gatherers” focuses on the culture of indigenous peoples as well as life in the Stone Age. The people of indigenous cultures often stored and transported the things they gathered in elaborately weaved baskets or other basketry containers. Inspired by these objects, Isabel Mania applies the techniques of weaving and twining to create her jewelry, very often from yarn as her material of preference. Some of her jewelry objects are veritable little containers that can accommodate small things. Others, however, crafted from found natural objects or wooden pieces that she shaped herself, have nothing in common with vessels. Carved into the shape of a biface, for example, the wood reminds us of a Stone Age hunting tool.
