What Hanne Bay Lührssen tries to achieve in her works is a perfect harmony of underlying idea, material and precision craftsmanship. Many of her creations are characterized by a combination of contrasting materials such as semi-finished plastics and traditional jewelry materials such as gold and silver. With her concept-based approach, Hanne Bay Lührssen challenges us to reflect upon the notions of value related to jewelry. Discussion, provocation and innovation are very important to her. Her sources of inspiration include the works by James Lee Byars (1932–1997), an American artist known for combining concept-art minimalism and Fluxus art. In 2011, Lührssen’s “roll-on” necklace won the bronze medal in the competition for the Danish Art and Crafts Prize.
